Carmel Oaks Inn & Suites operates this website, carmeloaksinn.com, and the inn at NE 5th Avenue and Mission Street, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA 93921. The inn is a Clarion Collection hotel, independently owned and operated under a franchise from Choice Hotels International, Inc. This policy covers this website and the inn. What we collect and why

When you browse this website

This website has no account sign-up, contact form or newsletter form. It does not ask for your name, email address or payment details. It does collect the following automatically:

Usage information, through Google Analytics. The pages you view, the site that sent you here, your browser and device type, your approximate location (city or region, worked out from your IP address), and whether you select a booking, phone, email, map or rewards link. We use it to understand how the site is used and to improve it. We have set Google Analytics for analytics only: Google signals and advertising features are turned off, and we do not use it to show you ads.
Technical information, through Cloudflare and our web server. Your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type. We use it to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems. Cloudflare may set a cookie that is needed for security.
Settings saved in your browser. Whether you have closed the cookie notice, and your privacy choice. These stay on your device.

This website does not use advertising cookies or advertising pixels.

When you book or contact us

Reservations. Online reservations are made on choicehotels.com, which Choice Hotels International operates. When you book there, Choice Hotels collects your details under its own privacy policy, available on choicehotels.com, and passes us what we need to provide your stay. When you book by phone or at the front desk, we collect your name, contact details, stay dates, number of guests, room type, any requests you make, and payment card details. At check-in we ask for identification and a payment card. We use this information to make and manage your reservation, take payment, provide your stay, and meet our legal and accounting obligations.
Calls, emails and faxes. If you contact us, we use what you tell us to answer you.

Choice Hotels International, our franchisor, whose reservation and property management systems hold reservation details, and which runs the Choice Privileges program if you are a member.
Companies that work for us: Google (analytics), Cloudflare (website delivery and security), and our payment providers. They may use the information only to provide their services to us.
Online travel agencies, if you book through one of them; their own privacy policies then apply to what you give them.
Authorities and others, when the law requires it or when it is needed to protect our guests, our staff or our rights.
A new owner, if the inn or its business is sold or transferred.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your privacy choices

California privacy rights

know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we use it and who receives it;
ask us to delete it, or to correct it if it is wrong;
opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do neither);
limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only to provide your stay and meet legal obligations); and
use these rights without being treated differently for doing so.

In the terms California law uses, the categories we collect are identifiers (such as name, email address, phone number, IP address and cookie identifiers), customer records (such as payment card and identification details), commercial information (your reservations), internet activity on this website, and approximate location. We collect them for the purposes described above.

To make a request, email [email protected] or call (831) 624-5547. We will ask for enough detail to confirm who you are, such as the details of a reservation, and we will respond within the time the law requires. Someone you have authorized in writing may make a request for you. For information held by Choice Hotels, such as your Choice Privileges account, you can also contact Choice Hotels as described in its privacy policy.

California residents may also ask, once a year, whether we have disclosed personal information to other companies for their own direct marketing. We have not.

How long we keep information

We keep reservation and payment records for as long as we need them for your stay and for our accounting, tax and legal obligations, generally several years. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account (no more than 14 months for detailed data). Web server logs are kept for a short time for security. We keep emails for as long as we need them to deal with your request.

Security

This website is served over an encrypted connection, and we limit access to reservation information to the people and providers who need it. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot promise that it will never be accessed improperly.

Children

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them online. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Visitors from outside the United States

We are located in California. Information collected through this website and for reservations is processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
